Period villas and their basements
Large buried volumes, walls against the ground, original ventilation often long dead. The basement stays cold and damp, salt efflorescence marks the foot of the walls and the smell rises into the house.
Bordighera and the Riviera dei Fiori
Bordighera lives largely on second homes and period villas, many of them built in the days of the English colony, with large basements and gardens that hold water. It is pleasant building stock and easy to leave shut up — which is exactly where mould thrives.
We remove black mould from walls and ceilings, treat bathroom joints, cellars and laundry rooms, without breaking anything and without a building site. Quotation from photos before we travel out.

The local building stock explains most cases. Here is what comes up again and again.
Large buried volumes, walls against the ground, original ventilation often long dead. The basement stays cold and damp, salt efflorescence marks the foot of the walls and the smell rises into the house.
Tight old core, lanes, shared stone walls, little direct sun. Black patches appear in corners and along party walls, and keep coming back until the room is ventilated.
Six months with the shutters shut is enough. On reopening, the bathroom, the cupboards and the backs of furniture are affected, even if nothing was visible when it was closed up.
Constant salt air and windows shut through the winter. Condensation settles on window reveals and in north-facing corners, and mould follows.
Example of a treated surface: visible mold is cleaned, the area is sanitized and prepared to stay clean.
Before
AfterTreatment of affected surfaces with suitable products, 3-month guarantee. First pass €25 per m² of surface actually treated — not the floor area of the room, but the area we really work on — and every further pass cheaper than the one before. Visible mould needs 3 to 5 passes, an old infestation 5 to 15. Clean surfaces in the same room are treated preventively from €15/m². We clean visible mold without breaking walls, painting or heavy renovation. Rates and worked examples

We also treat cellars and outdoor surfaces — facades, plinths, terraces — from the ground, up to 4 m, on an individual quotation.

We cover the whole area.
Bordighera is in zone A: the minimum call-out is €150, travel included. On the Italian side we are closer than we are to Nice, so lead times are short.
That is the most common situation here. The quotation is made from photos sent by a neighbour, a caretaker or an agency; access is arranged with them; and you receive before-and-after photographs with the line-by-line calculation.
The smell almost always comes before visible patches. In a basement the surface is contaminated long before it turns black: this is the classic case where the affected areas are treated and the rest of the room gets a preventive pass.
